24th Annual Backyard Plant Sale

Hello Happy Gardeners!

Despite many warm temperatures, Spring seems to be coming slowly for me. Maybe it’s because I planted about 100 new plants last year, lots from the plant sale and swapping with friends, and I just can’t wait to see what makes it and how it all looks! I’ve created a whole new bed along the fence and expanded other beds. You can visit my new beds when you come to the Annual Backyard Plant Sale!

If you are just hearing about the Annual Backyard Plant Sale, this is a sale I hold in my back yard each year. The plants are donated by interested people like you and come from our own gardens. 100% of the proceeds benefit The Nature Conservancy in Virginia. I will begin collecting plants the weekend or so before the sale.

The dates this year will be: Friday, May 3, 2023 from 4:00 PM to dark and Saturday, May 4, from 9 AM to 1 PM. The location is my backyard at 203 Howard St. in Ashland, VA 23005.

The preview for plant donors only will be from 3 to 4 PM on Friday, May 3. At the preview, plant donors may purchase up to the number of plants donated by that person. The more plants you donate, the more purchasing power you have! I hope you will note this is not a swap but a sale to raise money for a good cause. Hang around until 4 o’clock and the sale is open to everyone for unlimited purchases!

Saturday at 1:00 PM there will be a short, relevant talk, and at about 1:20 PM, all leftover plants are given to any plant donor in any quantity. This part of the event is popular to the plant donors and there are always 100s of great plants left over.

If you have plants to donate, you can leave them on my front porch anytime during the week or so before the sale. (please leave your name so I know who donated what). If you have time to label them with their plant names, or just leave me a list, that’s great. If not, no worries. No invasive alien plants From the Virginia Invasive Species List will be sold (https://tinyurl.com/57rmnk6w) and we love to see Virginia native plants at the sale!

I hope to see YOU at the sale.

Julie

PS: If you sign up for email updates on this page, I will post a plant list the night before the sale and you will get notified. The plant sale also has a facebook page where I tend to post more than on this website: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064649655648

22nd Annual Backyard Plant Sale!

Hello Plant Sale Fans!

I hope you all are enjoying watching your gardens come alive this Spring and dreaming about the the 22nd Annual Backyard Plant Sale, April 29 and April 30! I am!

I also hope you will join me on Friday April 29, from 4pm – dark (plant donors can come to the preview at 3pm and purchase up to the number of plants they donate) and Saturday April 30 from 9am – 1pm. The address is 203 Howard Street, Ashland, VA 23005.

If you have plants to donate, you can leave them on my front porch during the week or two before the sale. Those of you coming a long distance can bring your plants with you when you come to the sale. Keep in mind, however, the more I have ahead of time the easier it is for me to get plants tagged and out, and the earlier you dig, the better the plants look!

After the sale at 1pm on Saturday, we will have a short talk by someone very interesting. I do not know who that person is yet, however if you would like to talk, let me know!

After the talk, at about 1:30pm on Saturday April 30, folks who have donated plants to the sale will have the opportunity to take home FREE plants! There is always lots of great stuff left over so I hope you will donate plants to the sale to take advantage of this opportunity.

Feel free to contact me with any questions and come on out!

I will plan to post the plant sale list here the night before the sale (April 28). You can also check the facebook page (Annual Backyard Plant Sale) for other posts.

21st Annual Backyard Plant Sale!

Hello Friends!

I’m late posting and the plant sale is just around the corner – April 30 and May 1. We are back on the Spring sale after the pandemic pushed the sale into the Fall last year.

For those who don’t know, this is a sale I hold in my back yard each year. The plants are donated by interested people like you and mostly come from our own gardens. Proceeds from the sale benefit The Nature Conservancy in Virginia. I will begin collecting plants the weekend or so before the sale and up to the sale.

The dates this year will be:   Friday, April 30,  from 4:00 pm – dark AND Saturday, May 1st, from 9am – 1pm. The location is my backyard at 203 Howard Street in Ashland.

The preview for donors only will be from 3:00-4:00 pm on Friday April 30  — masks will be required and social distancing in place. At the preview, donors may purchase up to the number of plants donated by that person. So the more plants you donate, the more purchasing power you have! I hope you will note this is not a swap but a sale to raise money for a good cause. Hang around until 4:00 and the sale is open to everyone for unlimited purchases!

Saturday at 1:20, all leftover plants are given to any plant donor in any quantity. This part of the event has become very popular to the donors and there are always lots of great plants available.

If you have plants to donate, you can leave them on my front porch any time during the week or so before the sale (please leave your name so I know who donated what). If you can label them with their plant names or leave me a list, that’s great. No invasive alien plants will be sold (see invasive species list https://tinyurl.com/y38hta49 – it may surprise you!) and we LOVE to see Virginia native plants at the sale.

I hope to see you at the sale. You can find (and Like) a facebook page called “Annual Backyard Plant Sale” to get more frequent updates, photos, and other gardening tidbits.

20th Annual Backyard Plant Sale!

Hello Gardening Friends:

You didn’t think I was going to pass up the 20th year did you? No way! Just didn’t feel comfortable having it in the Spring with a pandemic lockdown happening, but I think we’ve learned a lot and can do something safely in the Fall, September 18 – 19 to be exact.

The dates this year will be:   Friday, September 18,  from 4:00 pm – dark AND Saturday, September 19, from 9am – 1pm. The location is my backyard at 203 Howard Street in Ashland.

The preview for donors only will be from 3:00-4:00 pm on Friday September 18  — masks will be required and social distancing in place. Depending on the guidelines at that time, we may need to have a limit to the numbers in the yard at any one moment.

Thank you!
