Hello Happy Gardeners!
Despite many warm temperatures, Spring seems to be coming slowly for me. Maybe it’s because I planted about 100 new plants last year, lots from the plant sale and swapping with friends, and I just can’t wait to see what makes it and how it all looks! I’ve created a whole new bed along the fence and expanded other beds. You can visit my new beds when you come to the Annual Backyard Plant Sale!
If you are just hearing about the Annual Backyard Plant Sale, this is a sale I hold in my back yard each year. The plants are donated by interested people like you and come from our own gardens. 100% of the proceeds benefit The Nature Conservancy in Virginia. I will begin collecting plants the weekend or so before the sale.
The dates this year will be: Friday, May 3, 2024 from 4:00 PM to dark and Saturday, May 4, from 9 AM to 1 PM. The location is my backyard at 203 Howard St. in Ashland, VA 23005.
The preview for plant donors only will be from 3 to 4 PM on Friday, May 3. At the preview, plant donors may purchase up to the number of plants donated by that person. The more plants you donate, the more purchasing power you have! I hope you will note this is not a swap but a sale to raise money for a good cause. Hang around until 4 o’clock and the sale is open to everyone for unlimited purchases!
Saturday at 1:00 PM there will be a short, relevant talk, and at about 1:20 PM, all leftover plants are given to any plant donor in any quantity. This part of the event is popular to the plant donors and there are always 100s of great plants left over.
If you have plants to donate, you can leave them on my front porch anytime during the week or so before the sale. (please leave your name so I know who donated what). If you have time to label them with their plant names, or just leave me a list, that’s great. If not, no worries. No invasive alien plants From the Virginia Invasive Species List will be sold (https://tinyurl.com/57rmnk6w) and we love to see Virginia native plants at the sale!
